Fun at the Park

June 2012- The weather has turned nice and it is fun to be outside.  We have been to the park a few times in Cardston and Sterling has discovered a love for the swings.

 My First Camping Trip

Back in April Mom, Dad and I went up North to a friends cabin so that Dad could work with training his horses.  We stayed over night in the cabin so I guess technically that was my first time camping out in the middle of no where.

But my first May long weekend I got to go up to the Nelson cabin up in the brush.  And we sure had fun!

I had a great sleep curled up in the sleeping bag. I have discovered that I sleep very well when I am out in the fresh air camping.

We had Granny Lou, Grandpa Rick, Aunt Maria and Uncle Dave up for breakfast.  It was lots of fun.  We also had a fire and I liked watching the fire.

Loving the Great Outdoors

June 4, 2012- Sterling had his first horse ride.  He was a natural, smiled the whole time.  When we were living at Draper's home Sterling and I would go outside and feed their horses old apples.  Sterling loved to touch horses.  He loves being outside!  Now that we are living in Mountain View we hope to have plenty of opportunities to be outside and with the animals.

Relaxing in the tub

So far bath time is okay!  At seven months, Sterling doesn't mind water at all.  He loves to SPLASH!

Sterling 6 Months

Look at me, eating like Mom and Dad!

So far at 7 months my favourite foods are bananas and sweet potatoes.  I do not really care for store bought baby food.  But Dad has let me taste some ice cream and that is the best.  Now if only I could eat that at every meal.

I can turn over by myself

March 18, 2012- I took off!! I started doing complete roll overs with a little help from Mom about 1 1/2 months ago.  Then I started being able to go from my back to my front by myself.  Then last week I did a few front to backs y myself.  But after spending sometime with Nanna and Grandpa this weekend I got home to hard wood floors of Drapers and my "rolling blanket" that mom puts me on on the floor could no longer contain me!  I am rolling all over the place.  In fact, wen Mom was washing the floor I rolled under the table and she couldn't find me for a few moments.  Not even 6 months old and already I am playing hide and go seek!

March, 2012

Sterling and Mom like to read together.  In the mornings we often read our scriptures.  As you can see in this picture, Sterling is studying pretty hard.  I sure do hope that you grow up loving the Scriptures.  They really will help you in life!

First things first

February 6, 2012
Sterling did have a few exciting firsts this week! He watched his first basketball game
in Hill Spring where his cousin Ryder was playing in a tournament. The movement
and the loud yelling really excited him and he bounced on my lap the whole time
watching the game. Sterling also went
swimming for the first time! It was his
cousin Mary Ann's four year birthday and we all went to the Claresholm pool to
celebrate. We got some swimming diapers
for Sterling and took him to the big pool first. I thought he was going to hate
the cool water but he kind of liked the feeling of being pulled through the
water. We also took him in the hot tub
(which was more like a warm tub so I thought it would be okay to bring him in
it) and he really liked that and did his delight scream when the jets came
on. When we took him back to the main
pool he didn't like it as much. I don't blame him! It felt a lot colder the second time in.

Sick and Sad

The week of February 13- February 18.
I Sterling am sick. Yuck! Cousin Caeleb was over last week as his mom and dad were at the temple. He had a cold and because he likes to give me kisses and sit on my head I think I got the cold from him. My sniffles and cough keep me and my Mom up at night. The last week I have been getting up 4-5 times a night and we are both kind of tired.
Yesterday Mom took me to the Dr's because I had a fever and my ears hurt. I found out I had an ear infection in both ears. So I get to take that yucky antibiotic pink liquid again. I already had to when they thought I had a ear infection when I was only a week old. Oh, well! I am grateful for baby advil. It sure makes me feel better. Last night I slept for 7 hours in a row!

I am a happy boy

January 26, 2012.
I am a happy little boy because I can sit in the bumbo Chair that Grandpa Rick and Granny Lou let me use. Tonight Dad and I are sitting in front of the TV watching the news as Mom is off at Book club. Dad is making me laugh. Oh, I sure like to giggle sometimes.

Sterling arrived October 1, 2011

What an exciting time in life. Our little boy Sterling arrived October 1, 2011 at 4:27 in the morning, weighing in at 7Ib 10 oz and 20 inch long.
I wasn't due until October 4th and, though he was only a few days early, I honestly thought he would come later than my due date. I didn't mind being pregnant and I still had things I had wanted to do before he came. I was working on my OT portfolio and it had taken me a few extra days after I finished work to complete the client chart notes I had needed to finish. Then Doug and I went to my Mom and Dad's to paint the outside of their house. While there Katherine and I went to Amanda Ellis' wedding shower and had a good time. I was telling everyone that I thought I would have at least another week before baby came. The next day while driving back to Mountain View I started having some "cramp like" pains. Everyone I had talked to about "what to expect" had described labour pains to be like stomach pains. But what I was experiencing wasn't like that at all. Mom and Dad came to stay at our place that night and Mom and I went to a baby shower for me in Mountain View.
It was a great baby shower- lots of my Nelson family there. I wasn't bothered by any "pains" there and I thought that what I had been experiencing was just fake labour. Doug was on a Young Mens camp out and he wasn't planning on coming home that night. But I didn't think anything would happen and Mom and Dad were there so I wasn't worried. Mom and I watched a movie when we go home that night and then we went to bed. Though I couldn't sleep. The cramps were getting worse and more regular. I decided to watch a movie in bed but I couldn't concentrate on it. Just as it hit me that this was really probably it Doug walked into the room. I think he must have been inspired to come home that night and I was so glad to see him!! We decided to wait a bit to make sure we wouldn't be turned away at the hospital doors but I guess we waited to long as my water broke at around 1;00am.. We were out the door right after that and to Lethbridge at around 200am. Sterling arrived at 4:27am. I remember feeling so blessed to have him here safe and sound. It just doesn't seem real, that you will really have a baby in the home until he arrives! It was fun getting to know him, learning how to soothe and feed him with Doug as a faithful helper that first day at the hospital. Mom and Dad Smith and Mom and Dad Nelson came to visit. Doug was sent out on trips to get last minute baby things (diapers, wipes etc.). I am so greatful for all he did! Then Sunday morning, only 33 hours after we arrived at the hospital, Doug and I strapped Sterling up in his car seat (loaned to us from his great Aunt Katherine, Uncle Chris and Caeleb), and took off for home.

The more that I grow

I, Sterling, am now 2 months old as of Dec 1 ,2011. I am now talking more (cooing and shrieking- this is how I sing) and I like to smile. I am awake alot now- sometimes too much and when I get too tired I get sad. But it is hard to sleep when there is so much going on around me. Mom and Dad took my Christmas tree hunting on Dec. 5th. We drove Drapers big old white truck and I sat on Mom's lap as the ride was a little bumpy. Don't tell the authorities about that! It was somewhaty snowy and Mom bundled me up so we could walk up the big hills. We got a nice tall tree for ourselves and one for Grandpa Rick and Granny Lou. What a fun tradition my family has!
